Is Bradley Wiggins a c**t? Uncut

Warning: This post contains rude words, like "c**t". If you're offended by such language, I have written an alternative post here.

Halfway into the Tour and it looks like Bradley Wiggins is going to win the thing. Of course, he could crash or crack, but I think those are the only two scenarios that are likely to derail his chances. And in my opinion, neither are very likely.

So, let's turn to a more important issue. Namely, is Bradley Wiggins a cunt?

A couple of days ago, he was asked what he had to say to those who felt it was impossible to win the Tour without the aid of drugs. He responded thus;
"They are just fucking wankers. I cannot be doing with people like that. It justifies their own bone-idleness because they can’t ever imagine applying themselves to anything in their lives. It’s easy for them to sit under a pseudonym on Twitter rather than get off their arses in their own life and apply themselves and work hard at something and achieve something, and that’s ultimately it. Cunts!"
This seems a little rich from someone who spends his entire career on his arse. And bone-idleness? I'll have you know, Bradley, I've been writing this blog for over a year. Do you have any idea how much perseverance and determination that requires? No, probably not. Cunt.

Then he looked at Vicenzo Nibali. At face value, this may not appear to constitute cuntiness but let's set the scene a little more. On yesterday's stage to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, Nibali opened up a lead of over a minute. Of course, Bradley and his minions closed the move down without too much hassle. And what happened when they crossed the line? I'll let Nibali tell you; "Bradley turned and looked at me. If he wants to be a great champion, he needs to have a bit of respect for his adversaries. Sometimes turning around and looking into your face is an insult."

Now it could be that Nibbles is a little over-sensitive but I think it's more likely that Bradley is indeed a cunt.

Then there's how he talks to people. Just the other day, he had this altercation with a cameraman;

Now let's have a look at what Wiggins thinks of himself;
"I’m not some shit rider who has come from nowhere. I’ve been three times Olympic champion on the track. I think people have to realise what kind of engine you need to win an Olympic gold medal as an Olympic pursuiter. I’ve been six times world champion, I’ve been fourth in the Tour de France, third in the Vuelta last year, it’s not like I’ve just come from nowhere. I’ve got an incredible pedigree behind me, junior world champion and an incredible rise through the ranks and so I don’t feel like I lost my cool, I just said what I think."
OK Bradley, you may be a good cyclist. But when you start using words like "engine" and "incredible pedigree" and "incredible rise" to describe yourself, I think you might be taking things a little too far. Sure, in Australia we have this thing called tall poppy syndrome and some may argue I'm suffering from that. But I'm not. I don't have a problem with greatness (I myself was recently described as the "best maths teacher ever" for example). What I do have a problem with is cunts. Arrogant, immodest (tautology? maybe) cunts who think they are somehow superior human beings.

Now, I know one shouldn't judge a book by its cover but let's throw caution to the wind and judge Bradley by his mug;

Uhm, yeah, I think I'm a bit of a cunt.

And this one;

Whoa, Bradley let a smile through. Someone's going to get the sack.

I reckon Bradley confused the era for the 1950s and confused his Pinarello for a Vespa. In his own mind, he looks like this;

With all those mirrors so that he can look at himself and ensure that he doesn't accidentally smile again. No such mistake on the front cover of last fortnight's L'Équipe where everyone is having a good time except old Cunty and his friend Cav;

Now, I don't think you are a doper Bradley but with all this evidence, I do have a question for you;

What do you say to those people who suspect that you're a cunt?

And on that note, I think I'll have a lie down.

  1. Great post. Apparently his father was a bit of a cunt and it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

      And of course Armstrong ISN'T a massive bell end (citation required)

  4. Your a Cunt. Your banging on about how much 'perseverance and determination' it takes to write a blog? really? I mean Bradley must ride at least 5/6 hours if not more everyday on the bike. And that doesnt include the other stuff he does to benefit him for his career. Like stretching and working out his diet etc. You cant say he sits on his ass all day. His passion is clearly in cycling. He explains how he won gold medals on the track and some of his better results on the road. And im sure if a cameraman was running at you with a huge camera coming towards your face you would push it out the way and judging by the amount of times in this 'blog' you have used the word 'cunt', yes im sure you would say the same aswell. And if i had won all those gold medals and had all of those amazing results in grand tours over the years, yes, i would be 'boasting' about it just as much as bradley. Stop being such a wanker and talking about such a great and inspirational man in such negativity when he is clearly part of the history within the sport of cycling.
    Cunt.

    1. Develop a sense of humor, will you. Also, learn the difference between "Your" and "You are". The only thing worse than a vapid, fetid turd of a fanboy is a vapid, fetid turd of a fanboy who can't spell the simplest, most basic words. And no, I won't use ~that~ word for you. In your case, it'd be an undeserved compliment.

      Oh, you mean the whole article was a joke. Fair one.

    3. Wait a sec. You're (did you catch that) saying part of what makes him great is that he stretches?? Stretching?? Is there a special place in your heart for stretching?? Did you go to stretching school?
      Yes, you write: "And that doesnt include the other stuff he does to benefit him for his career. Like STRETCHING and working out his diet etc."
      Yeah, and develop a sense humour (also correct is humor).

  5. I just would like to point out that the expression Cav is working on that L'Equipe cover seems to be pretty standard-issue irony from him. Also, I think you have to have a little understanding about the whole Mod thing that Bradley buys into so heavily, and the concept of being 'The Face'. To distill it, he thinks he's Liam Gallagher (Oasis, yeah?); if you take everything he says in the context of that, it makes a little more sense. Misguided? Yeah - but not necessarily cunty. We Brits are not that used to being good at much, and when we are, we struggle with it.

    Also, wasn't his dad an Australian?

    2. Yeah i do know him, nice bloke, our families are both close. It would take a really weird type of humour to laugh at this. But you have worked so hard to sit on your arse and write this shite so I'll let you have your fun.
      Have fun trying to get some contacts in cycling mate.

  7. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but yours does seem a bit biased. The vid above with the cameraman - if you'd just cycling a stage of the tour de france and that happened, do you think you'd say "excuse me old bean"? Also the bits about him rating himself - you don't get through a pro cycling career and certainly not through 3 weeks of hell on the tour if you haven't got some self belief and nothing he said was factually wrong. It's weird hearing a brit be so positive, but if he was American, no one would bat an eyelid at him saying the things he said about himself.

    This is the culmination of a life's work - he hasn't just doped and get stronger - there has been a trajectory and this combined with the absence of some former rivals, plus a great season, great team to support him and a tour de france route that thus far has suited his team (plus a sprinkling of luck which he's previously not hard so much of in the last couple of tdf's) means he's where he deserves to be. It's not over by a long shot but give the guy some credit for what he has achieved and don't be biased against him just because he's now wearing yellow.

    2. It's just a matter of attitude. A majority of people on the continent think he's a doper but that's the case as well for Contador and a majority of people like Contador.
      Wiggins is hated by millions, he's may be more unpopular than Armstrong at this point and that's very difficult to achieve.
      He should calm down and be less arrogant. Just for his own sake. And because it's still a long way to go to Paris...

  8. Ok so the comments above suggest that the Mod movement should be renamed the Cunt movement. Then if so as Bradley is a mod, he is a also cunt.
    Hinault, Merckx, Anquetil were not smiling guys. They were over-confident and could be rude sometimes. But they respect people and especially their opponents. And this is what really makes BW a Major Cunt even by Mods standards.

  9. I'm not trying to apologise for Bradley's actions, I just think that - in the same way that you sometimes have to adapt/accept the cultural differences in gallic or latin riders, and their temperaments - some commentators/journalists/fans need to see Wiggins' responses in terms of his cultural background. That's all. I don't know what he's really like, but I do know that his responses sound exactly the same as would come from a lot of my friends, who are good guys... But who don't necessarily express themselves in a way that would look great in print.

    I also think it's easy to look back on some of the greats of the past in a way that kind of blanks out much of their cuntyness. Some are dead, some are great old men who deserve the respect they get. Many of them were not universally liked at the time and very controversial in their own rights. Time fades all of that.

    1. Very true. People aren't often remembered for their personality, rather, for what they achieved. Apparently Einstein beat his wife but few people know or care about that. I'm sure it will be the same for Wiggins if/when he wins.

    2. Too true! Don Bradman has been universally lauded as the greatest cricketer to pull on a box, but he was universally loathed by his team. Though he casts a long shadow in cricket he was, by all accounts, an arrogant, selfish, mean spirited bastard (AKA: a proper cunt)

  10. When you ride a bike as well as he does, maybe it's ok to be a cunt.

    Nibali has been disrespectful and dismissive of Bradley Wiggins since the start of the tour, so perhaps he was just reminding him of his presence.

    By his own description Wiggins does not claim to be a role model for anyone, just someone who rides his bike well. Do we need him to be anything other?

    Without a football at his feet Ryan Giggs is just an adulterous cunt. Off the pitch George Best was just a drunken cunt. Out of the saddle some might describe Greipl (spelling??) as an ugly cunt.

    All I require from a tour de France winner is that they're clean, committed and can prove their class on the road.
    I think the only cunts on this tour, will stay longingly between the legs of the WAGS. Roll on Paris!!

  12. Final comment on this... That L'Equipe picture was looks photoshopped together, yeah? I doubt the six were all in the room having a laugh together.

    If that's the case, it's totally down to editorial choice which pic of Wiggins was used. I'd say your looking more at L'equipe's editorial policy - and how they want to portray him - than you are at a reflection of his personality. They could have a hundred smiling poses of him, and just chosen to use that one...

  13. I totally agree with this blog entry.

    I was a press official at the Worlds in Copenhagen last year and after the TT I saw BW puinged angrily a colleague official who was trying to get the time chip off his bike (like he had done to all other riders) and then almost got in a fight with one of the race directors who went after him to stop him. At the press conference he mumbled that "he didn't give a shit" about all this and didn't bother to stay when Tony Martin and Cancellara were a bit late in arriving.
    All the other riders struck me as friendly and professional with the press, but BW really left me with a negative impression as a prickly and unfriendly person.

  16. Here in the U.S. that "c" word is used as the ultimate insult to/about a woman. It's a horrible, horrible word here and only the roughest/lowest element of society use it so I don't quite understand the Brit/Aussie use of the word toward a man. Can someone please enlighten me? Do Brits routinely insult men by using this word? Honestly, here in the States it's one of the worst things you could possibly say to a woman... but never to a man ... I am SO confused!! Seriously - will someone explain this for me? Thanks!

    1. Oh love..you hit the nail right on the head with that one..."I am SO confused..."

      There are terms of endearment and terms of respect. Just like Fuck, Cunt is one of those terms neatly encompassing both. I will direct you to "The English Language" for clarification http://www.break.com/index/englishf.html (an oldie but a goodie).

      You see - life outside the US is so challengingly ambiguous. You should try it some time!

    2. Good article.
      The incident where he goes out of his way to knock the camera off the cameraman's shoulder shows that despite his own success he still tries to make life difficult for ordinary people trying to do their work.

  18. yeah - BW is a douche bag. I'm glad GB (finally) won a Tour, but what a smug sphincter they have to bring home yellow. I wonder if BW doesn't smile because he has one of those "beautiful" British smiles, so I give him the benefit of the doubt. If I had a busted grill, I wouldn't want it on the cover of a magazine, either. There's no excuse for the stupid sideburns, however. As an aside, it was the most boring Tour I have watched in years.
